| | | | | | Tunch - Mark White | | | Our Price: $9.95 | | | | Item Number: MMC2063J | | Audio Format: DDD | | Genre: Guitar | | | | Description | | Excerpts from the Liner Notes (by Ernie Santosuosso)
On his first CD to be released under his own name, Mark White and his quintet, augmented by an outstanding gaggle of guest players, feast upon predominantly Latino fare, enhanced by pinches of funk and fusion. The core group consists of, in addition to the leader on a variety of guitars, the prodigiously talented woodwinds whiz Les Thimmig, John Lockwood on bass, John Arcaro on piano and Jamie Haddad on drums. Their product here is a glorious odyssey through the rain forests of Brazil onto the beaches of Rio, with stopovers in Italy, the Azores and Birdland.
White’s unerring sense of tonality, melody and pace flow brilliantly through his baptismal opus. The versatile Thimmig scores brilliantly with his awesome reed-playing, Lockwood’s bass sings eloquently, Arcaro’s keyboard articulation is both assertive and sympathetic. And then, there is the cast of friends: Victor Mendoza, vibraphone; Keith Copeland, drums; and Barry Smith, bass, all of them marquee players. |

| | | | Reviews | | "This associate professor at Berklee College of Music astounded the jazz music industry with this carefully plotted release of well developed truly original musicwork. To me Mark White was an unheard of musician that has been hiding in the wings carefully scheming this latest release. Sharing his stage with woodwinds player Les Thimmig, Victor Mendoza on vibes, John Lockwood on bass, Jamie Haddad on drums, and John Arcaro on piano this group commingles to form beautiful music. I could not figure out what was different about Mark's release on my first listen. However, my realization came into focus when I figured out Mark is a musicians musician whom loves to develop down a slightly different path not trying to copy someone else's walk, but making up one all his own. MMC has found a star in Mark White, and a fan in me."
