| | | | | | Dream Voyages For Piano (2CD) - Carl Vollrath | | | Our Price: $14.95 | | | | Item Number: MMC2158 | | | | Description | | Over the course of his 40+ year career, composer and educator Carl Vollrath has earned a reputation for crafting works of the highest quality for an incredibly wide array of instruments and ensemble types. His catalog contains numerous pieces for orchestra, chamber ensembles, band, voice, and a full-length opera ("The Quest"); in each and every work the listener can immediately hear his unique musical voice with its engaging rhythms, as snappy in some pieces as they are languid in others; colorful and expressive harmonies and melodies; and a sheer joie de vivre that is completely infectious.
In DREAM VOYAGES FOR PIANO, Vollrath’s latest MMC release, the composer presents a huge swath of his music for solo piano performed by internationally recognized artists Milan Langer and Victoria Griswold in a double-disc tour-de-force. A strong taste of American flavor figures heavily in many of Vollrath’s works, such as his "Sonata For Piano No. 1," in which the composer presents melodic and harmonic figures drawn from the blues, and "Creative Moments For Piano Fingers," where evocative sonic landscapes recall the scope and breadth of Copland and Schuman at their most varied. But Vollrath’s heritage and an adventurous spirit insure the inclusion of elements more diverse than just the American, as in the warm travelogue "Mediterranean Sketches" and the jovially European "Coffee With Your Shakespeare"; this is a composer who knows where he’s been and knows where he’s going, and he succeeds admirably in bringing us all along his wonderful, dreamlike, inimitable journey.
Vollrath is currently preparing pieces for his next MMC release, two full CDs of music for clarinet featuring Richard Stoltzman. |
