| | | Miriam Gideon began her musical studies at the piano at age nine. By her early teens she was writing music and had begun to view herself as a composer more than a performer. She studied composition with Lazare Saminsky and Roger Sessions. She received her B.A. from Boston University, M.A. from Columbia University (Musicology), and Doctor of Sacred Music (Composition) from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America.
Miriam Gideon has composed extensively in all media and has been performed and recorded by orchestras, chamber groups, and soloists in the United States, Europe, South America, and the Far East. She has recorded with RCA Victor, Westminster, Desto, Serenus, and CRI. She has received numerous awards, honors, and commissions, and is an elected member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. |
