Tom Cipullo (b. 1959) is known throughout the United States as a composer of exquisite vocal music. His lyricism and depth of expression have led to numerous commissions from some of contemporary music’s most important artists, including celebrated American song specialist Paul Sperry, I Cantori di New York, and the New York Festival of Song.
In 1992, Mr. Cipullo’s interest in instrumental music was rekindled when he was invited to compose a work for the opening of the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo. The result, Fanamberfare, was broadcast and encored on national Japanese television. A number of instrumental works followed including the virtuosic piano piece Water Lilies, commissioned by Jeanne Golan, and Sparkler (originally a 4-hand piano work).
Tom Cipullo has been a founding member of two new music concert series, Underground Composers of Boston and the Friends & Enemies of New Music. He is currently on the faculty of the Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College. |
