| | | ROBERT BLACK (1950-1993)
Born in Dallas, Texas, the late Robert Black began his piano studies at age five and presented his first public recitals at age thirteen in Louisiana and Texas. He was a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory and the Juilliard School of Music, where he earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree. His experience, musicianship, and guidance were integral to the early successes of the MMC recording series.
Among the many prestigious positions that Mr. Black attained as a conductor were Principal Conductor of the Kuopio Orchestra in Finland, and Music Director of the PRISM Chamber Orchestra in New York, the New Amsterdam Symphony, and the American Opera Projects. In addition, he made numerous guest appearances as featured conductor with national and international orchestras.
Robert Black’s festival appearances include the New York Philharmonic’s Horizons Festival, the Warsaw Autumn Festival, World Music Days in Athens Greece, New York’s Bang—On—A—Can Festival, the Grand Teton Festival, the NEC Jazz Festival, and the LSU Contemporary Music Festival. |
