| | | Adele Berk received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Hunter College and Columbia University in New York City, studying composition with Irving Fine and Norman Lockwood. A resident of Wantaugh, Long Island, she is a composer of instrumental, vocal, and choral music.
Ms. Berk served on the faculties of Nassau Community College and Dowling College, and spent two years as composer-in-residence in the Wantagh public schools. Her music has been performed at the Charles Ives Center for American Music, Mars Hill College, Scott’s Church in Melbourne, Australia, the Tanglewood Music Center, Columbia University, Ithaca College, SUNY at Oswego, Bates College, and at colleges, museums, libraries and schools throughout the Long Island area.
A prize-winning choral composer, Ms. Berk’s choral music has been programmed by many ensembles, including groups conducted by Kirk Dunklee, Richard Kegerreis, William Noll, Harold Rosenbaum and Gregg Smith. She was a finalist in the Ithaca College Choral Composition Contest and one of the winners of the Northport Chorale Composer Competition. Her publishers include Belwin-Mills, Lawson-Gould, Plymouth Music and Theodore Presser, as well as her own publishing company, Timbrel Music.
A member of ASCAP and the International Alliance for Women in Music, Ms. Berk has been an active member of the Long Island Composers Alliance for many years. |
